Duties
- Checks schedules and organizes patient flow
- Accompanies patients to exam/procedure room
- Assists patients with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
- Collects patient history
- Checks vital signs
- Performs screenings per provider guidelines
- Assists providers as needed
- Charts patient information
- Answers phones and provides information
- Verifies prescriptions with physician orders
- Sends/receives patient medical records
- Obtains lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- Completes forms/requisitions as needed
- Schedules appointments
- Manages and updates patient charts
- Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics
- Responds appropriately to emergency codes
- Shares problems with immediate supervisor
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or college course in medical assisting
- Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office
- Experience working in a Gastroenterology practice preferred
