Medical Assistant I PT (30348)

Duties

• Checks schedules and organizes patient flow
• Accompanies patients to exam/procedure room
• Assists patients with walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.
• Collects patient history
• Checks vital signs
• Performs screenings per provider guidelines
• Assists providers as needed
• Charts patient information
• Answers phones and provides information
• Verifies prescriptions with physician orders
• Sends/receives patient medical records
• Obtains lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
• Completes forms/requisitions as needed
• Schedules appointments
• Manages and updates patient charts
• Verifies insurance coverage and patient demographics
• Responds appropriately to emergency codes
• Shares problems with immediate supervisor

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or college course in medical assisting
• Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office
• Experience working in a Gastroenterology practice preferred
