About the role

The Medical Assistant I is an unlicensed health professional who assists patients throughout routine visits and helps manage their health. They work collaboratively with medical providers and other healthcare staff to provide comprehensive health care services.

Responsibilities

  • Works closely with medical providers to provide comprehensive health care to patients
  • Prepares for the patient visit in advance to ensure all necessary lab results, diagnostics, and discharge summaries are ready
  • Aids in the provision of clinical services such as taking vital signs, performing EKGs, administering vaccines, and collecting and preparing specimens
  • Operates various medical equipment and injects, handles, or provides vaccines and medications to patients
  • Maintains proper documentation for all encounters, including vitals, health maintenance, screenings, vaccinations, medications, and questionnaires
  • Ensures exam rooms are prepared and sterilized before and after each patient visit
  • Aids in the discharge process, answering final logistical questions, and completing medication, laboratory, and radiology orders
  • Arranges for hospital admissions or ER visits as needed and makes appropriate referrals to other departments or external agencies
  • Assists patients with ambulation and transfers, and assists with interpreter needs
  • Tracks and follows up on patients with continuing health care needs and rotates to other clinic sites or medical departments as required
  • Maintains refrigerators and freezers at proper temperatures and assists with interpreter needs
  • Participates in achieving organizational goals and reports incidents promptly and accurately

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited school
  • Completion of 160 hours of externship or 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant
  • At least 35 words per minute typing speed
  • Basic life support certification
  • Nevada laboratory license
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Fluency in English, with additional language proficiency as required
  • Current documentation of basic life support

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and procedures
