About the Role

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) in Family Medicine. Schedule details are Monday through Friday with hours varying based on the needs of the practice, potentially ranging from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follow all policies and procedures, and maintain training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
  • Perform rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
  • Assist provider with or perform procedures as ordered.
  • Perform lab-related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. Conduct Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order.
  • Complete Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
  • Administer medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
  • Demonstrate effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
  • Maintain a clean work environment, ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, and areas are stocked.
  • May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
  • May serve as a role champion or on a committee.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, including understanding principles of growth and development over the life span.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or structured military training that is clinical in nature (per DD214) in lieu of a formal program, or EMT certification (varies by location).
  • For IL/WI Divisions and Floyd & Navicent: 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years may substitute for formal education.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification (required within 45 days for some locations).
  • Certified or registered as a CMA or RMA by a recognized national organization (e.g., AAMA, NHA, AMT, NCCT, etc.).
  • Successful completion of system-approved competency assessments (varies by location).
  • Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.

Skills

  • Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with patients, team members, and physicians.
  • Proficient computer skills, including use of electronic medical records systems.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills supporting a positive patient experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance; for lifts over 35 pounds or when the patient cannot assist, use patient handling equipment with at least one other team member.
  • Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch, with fine-hand manipulation skills.
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical hazards, and blood/body fluids; required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
  • Operate all necessary equipment to perform the job.

Pay

Pay range: $21.85 - $34.35 per hour.
