Duties
- Serve as the medical assistant float between the offices within the region/territory as needed.
- Assist physicians with patient care, including checking schedules, organizing patient flow, accompanying patients to exam/procedure rooms, assisting with patient care activities such as walking transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, etc.
- Collect patient history, check vital signs, perform screenings, assist providers, chart, handle phone triage, administer medications, relay instructions to patients/families, answer calls, and provide pertinent information.
- Handle clerical tasks such as sending/receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, completing forms/requisitions, scheduling appointments, managing and updating charts.
- Fulfill organizational responsibilities by respecting/promoting patient rights, responding to emergency codes, and sharing problems with supervisors.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED, medical assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or college course in medical assisting.
- Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Experience working in a Gastroenterology practice is preferred.
- Knowledge: Understanding of health care field and EMR systems.
- Skills: Ability to perform medical assistance tasks appropriately, effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to understand patient education needs, ability to learn and retain patient care practices and procedures, ability to project a pleasant and professional image, ability to plan, prioritize, and complete tasks, ability to multi-task, ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others.
Requirements
- Entry level (1-4 years experience) and/or meet the basic requirements of the job with the need for additional supervision. Excess of 4 years experience if meeting only the basic requirements of the job with need for additional supervision.
