About the Role

The Medical Assistant I, Certified provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in an outpatient clinic setting. The role operates under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor for non-clinical responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs rooming and/or intake process, collecting and documenting data, including vital signs, height, weight, and reason for visit.
  • Collects patient and family data, including medical and social history.
  • Reviews patient’s current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
  • Assists the provider as directed during treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Collects specimens and performs phlebotomy.
  • Administers medications under the direction of a provider.
  • Performs tests (e.g., EKG, eye exams) under the direction of a provider.
  • Reviews the patient record to determine whether routine health screenings are required.
  • Ensures exam/procedure rooms are stocked with appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials.
  • Provides patients with after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions and educational materials as directed.
  • Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam and treatment rooms; cleans and sterilizes instruments.
  • Assists with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, and scheduling of tests, treatments, and referrals.
  • Answers clinic telephones and assists with in-basket tasks under the direction of a provider or nurse.
  • Assists in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant certification by one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC).

Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Prior medical assistant or externship experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform essential functions of the position, including effective communication, interpersonal skills, and teamwork.
  • Ability to use a computer to document information in the electronic medical record.

Pay

$16.03 - $23.05 per hour (hiring range). Pay offers are determined by experience and internal equity.

Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Day shift.
  • Onsite work assignment in Lenoir, NC.
