About the role
The Medical Assistant provides both clinical and administrative support to patients under the supervision of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for exams, record vital signs, perform phlebotomy, and administer medications as directed.
- Gather data for patient assessment and discharge planning under nurse supervision.
- Process and submit laboratory specimens following procedures.
- Communicate patient findings accurately to Providers and Nurses.
- Ensure timely documentation within the EPIC system.
- Handle front-office duties such as scheduling, co-payment collection, and patient tracking.
- Perform clinical tasks specific to the department, including point-of-care testing and screenings.
- Manage general office tasks like faxing, filing, and room preparation.
- Maintain a safe environment by following safety policies and procedures.
- Develop positive relationships with patients, families, and team members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of an approved Medical Assistant, EMT, or Paramedic program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology; experience in healthcare environment preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word); EMR experience preferred.
- Experience in phlebotomy is preferred.
- No prior experience or supervision required.
