About the role
The Medical Assistant I is an unlicensed health professional who assists patients throughout their routine visits and helps manage their health. They work collaboratively with medical providers and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive health care services.
Responsibilities
- Works closely with medical providers to provide comprehensive health care to patients
- Prepares for the patient visit in advance to ensure all necessary labs, diagnostics, and documents are ready
- Aids in the provision of clinical services such as taking vital signs, performing EKGs, administering vaccines, and collecting and preparing specimens
- Operates various medical equipment and ensures proper documentation for all encounters
- Administers vaccines and medications following the five rights of medication administration
- Maintains refrigeration and sterilization standards
- Aids in patient discharge, answering logistical questions, and making referrals
- Assists with interpreter needs and rotating to other clinic sites or departments as needed
- Tracks and follows up on patients with ongoing health care needs
- Participates in training sessions and reports incidents promptly
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited school
- Completion of 160 hours of externship or 1 year of work experience
- Type at least 35 words per minute
- Basic life support certification
- Nevada Laboratory License
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills
Qualifications
- Fluency in English
- Fluency in additional languages may be required depending on location
- Current documentation of Basic Life Support
- Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer skills

- EMR knowledge (EPIC is a plus)
