Medical Assistant I

About the role

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support in an emergency department setting, working under the supervision of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for exams, record vital signs, perform phlebotomy, and administer medications as directed
• Collect data for patient assessment and discharge planning under nurse supervision
• Handle laboratory specimens and communicate findings to healthcare providers
• Document care accurately within the electronic medical record (EPIC)
• Assist with clinical tasks such as point-of-care testing, screenings, and procedures
• Perform office duties including appointment scheduling, patient tracking, and billing
• Maintain examination rooms and develop positive patient relationships
• Follow safety protocols to ensure a safe environment for all
• Perform other assigned duties as needed

Qualifications & Skills

• High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of an approved Medical Assistant, EMT, or Paramedic program
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Medical Assistant certification preferred
• Knowledge of medical terminology and experience with healthcare environments preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic medical records (EPIC) preferred
• Experience in phlebotomy is a plus
