About the role
The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to patients under the guidance of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for exams, record vital signs, perform phlebotomy, and administer medications as directed.
- Gather data for patient assessments, discharge plans, and evaluate individual care needs.
- Collect, process, and submit laboratory specimens following established procedures.
- Communicate patient findings to Providers/Nurses and document care accurately in the EPIC system.
- Perform front-office tasks like appointment scheduling, visit prep, co-payment collection, and patient tracking.
- Conduct department-specific clinical duties such as point-of-care testing and screenings.
- Handle routine office duties including faxing, copying, and filing, and maintain examination rooms.
- Develop positive relationships with patients, families, and staff while following safety protocols.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Qualifications & Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of an approved Medical Assistant, EMT, or Paramedic program.
- BLS certification required; Medical Assistant certification preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology; experience in healthcare environment is advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with electronic medical records (e.g., EPIC) is preferred.
- Experience in phlebotomy is a plus but not mandatory.
