About the role
The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting our healthcare providers. This position involves a variety of responsibilities including escorting patients, preparing procedure trays, maintaining equipment, and assisting with various medical procedures.
Responsibilities
- Escort patients to exam rooms and confirm their details.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Organize patient flow and prepare procedure trays.
- Setup and calibrate equipment, clean, sterilize, and inventory instruments.
- Document medical instructions and review wound care with patients.
- Anesthesia/Inject for procedures as needed.
- Address patient inquiries and manage phone communications.
- Maintain infection control protocols and ensure supply rooms are stocked.
- Order, sort, restock, and inventory supplies.
- Ensure timely addressing of phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail.
Qualifications
- Able to triage patient problems and comply with OSHA/HIPAA standards.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.
- Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
- Knowledge of office financial policies and basic computer skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a high-paced, stressful environment.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow instructions.
- Ability to handle materials and perform physical tasks.
Physical Requirements
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Moderate talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
- Using hands and fingers.
- Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
- Handling materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
- Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
- Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and exposure to chemicals and sharp objects.
