Responsibilities
- Administer medications/immunizations and perform routine care and/or medical assistant duties which require training and skill.
- Aid practitioners in the delivery of health care services such as examinations, clinical procedures, and medical treatments.
- Ensure health care patient care areas are fully stocked, organized, and clean.
- Administer medications by mouth, intradermal injection, intramuscular injection, subcutaneous injection, including immunizations and tuberculosis testing.
- Take temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration readings, height and weight and other vital signs.
- Absorb patients for examination by a clinician and assist in the examination when appropriate.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is a reliable team player with strong oral communication skills who can work well with others in a respectful and professional manner. They should be able to understand basic medical terminology, follow clinic procedures, and stay within the Medical Assistant scope of practice as defined by the Medical Board of California. Attention to detail is key for maintaining accurate medical records, and they must be able to multitask, prioritize, and meet deadlines. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and SHS policies is essential, along with the ability to use sound judgment and consult with clinicians when needed. The candidate should be comfortable using computers, especially for health information systems, and be able to learn new equipment and procedures quickly. Most importantly, they should be committed to creating cooperative relationships with students, clinicians, and coworkers in a campus-based setting.
Qualifications
- Equivalent to a high school diploma required.
- One year of experience performing the duties of a medical assistant in an outpatient clinic preferred.
Skills

Benefits
Compensation is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources. The salary range for this classification is $24.05 to $30.50 per hour.

Schedule
Hourly/intermittent on call temporary position. Successful candidates may be appointed for a few days and up to one (1) year depending on the assignment. Temporary assignments may expire prior to the ending date.
