Responsibilities
- Initiates patient care assessments, gathers vital signs, prepares patient and exam room for procedures, and collects specimens.
- Provides patient education and support as needed to assist physician, patient and family.
- Returns patient phone calls.
- Affirms problems/conditions requiring visit and accurately documents in medical records.
- Greets and screens patient for appropriate information, preparing for examination by provider.
- Affords assistance during examination, treatment and referral of patient, preparing necessary paperwork, equipment, etc.
- Initiates testing ordered by provider, to include completion of paperwork and scheduling of appointments.
- Administers injections to patients of all ages.
- Affords assistance with patient education.
- Maintains medical record entries and provides oversight of medical record content.
- Affords assistance in referral management and tracking.
- Calls in prescription information as necessary and under direction of provider.
- Maintains appropriate level of medical supplies and drugs, to include inventorying and ordering.
- Develops and maintains a useful documentation system for care that complies with legal, JCAHO and quality management requirements.
- Performs x-rays under the direction of the physician.
- Safeguards patients are charged accurately for services.
- Maintains files with referral slips and authorizations and makes appointments for consults while adhering to office scheduling policies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Completion of Certified Medical Assistant Program or 3-4 years of experience.
- Completion of the CNA, or LPN preferred.
- Minimum of one year clinic experience in family or pediatric care setting.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred.
