About the role
The Medical Assistant performs administrative, clinical, and financial duties for the Pima County Health Department’s Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic. They assist physicians, physicians’ assistants, and nurse practitioners, and support registered nurse case managers by performing various tasks.
Responsibilities
- Triage patients, take vital signs, draw blood samples, perform CLIA-waived tests, and assist patients in completing necessary information and consent forms.
- Absorb and organize the clinic and equipment, ensuring compliance with quality assurance practices, risk management, safety, and infection control procedures.
- Assist case managers with examinations, medical procedures, and treatments, including dispensing medication and providing information on treatment and prevention of TB.
- Perform daily checks on the TB Air Monitoring System, room temperatures, and the laboratory and medication refrigerators’ temperatures to ensure they are within the recommended optimal range.
- Perform various administrative tasks such as maintaining medical charts and files, arranging collection and delivery of laboratory samples and patient medications, monitoring and recording medication inventories, scheduling appointments, x-rays, and routine TB-related tests, and registering patients with emocha Health and Straight Talk Prevention Services.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Certification AND six (6) months of medical assistance work experience OR enrollment in a certified Medical Assistant (MA) Program or certification from a valid educational institute.
- One (1) year experience as a medical assistant.
- One (1) year experience working with electronic health records (EHR).
