About the role
Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned including checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam rooms; assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, phlebotomy, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls, and providing pertinent information.
Completes clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing and updating charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriately.
Maintains environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
Completes organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
Fulfills clinical medical assisting responsibilities, which include checking vital signs; physical examination preparations; prescription verifications with physician’s orders; biohazard waste disposal and monitoring; laboratory procedures including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines; quality control methods; CLIA-waived testing; venipunctures; specimen handling such as urine, throat, vaginal, stool, and sputum; EKG testing; completing lab draws; emergency first aid.

- Completing organizational tasks such as respecting patient rights and responding to emergencies
- Performing clinical medical assisting tasks including checking vital signs, physical examinations, prescription verifications, biohazard waste disposal, laboratory procedures, specimen handling, EKG testing, and completing lab draws
Requirements
- Minimum H.S. diploma or GED
- Excellent interpersonal skills and customer service attitude
- Prior experience as a Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant (CANBLS) certification preferred

- Must adhere to the MA scope of practice in the laboratory and follow NYS guidelines
- Maintains patient confidentiality at all times
- Complies with organizational policies regarding ethical business practices
