Responsibilities

  • Cover clinical offices based on operational need.
  • Assist in the examination of patients under the direction of a Physician or Allied Health professional, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
  • Maintain smooth patient flow through accurate assessment of patient needs, attention to physician orders, and proper scheduling and follow-up of tests and procedures.
  • Act as an intermediary between physicians and patients to optimize physician time.
  • Collect and manage patient data, ensuring charts are organized and up-to-date.
  • Log procedures accurately and maintain current billing and patient charges.
  • Document patient instructions, injections, and scheduled medications precisely.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, including taking vital signs, charting, and addressing individual patient needs.
  • Ensure patients complete correct consent forms and are prepared for minor procedures.
  • Demonstrate technical skills in patient care, including injections, wound care, and handling body fluids, while adhering to safety and sterile techniques.
  • Explain procedures to patients and families to ensure cooperation and understanding.
  • Prepare and clean examination rooms, assist physicians with procedures, and sterilize equipment.
  • Administer prescribed medications orally or by injection (per policy) and document time, dosage, and route on patient charts.
  • Perform electrocardiographs (EKG), pulse oximetry, inhalation treatments, and operate other certified equipment.
  • Complete all documentation to ensure accurate medical records.
  • Verify physician signatures and ensure all orders are carried out; return charts to medical records.
  • Maintain inventory of medical supplies and materials, discarding expired medications and supplies.
  • Support and practice nursing policies and procedures within the scope of Medical Assistant practice and RMC guidelines.
  • Maintain current BLS certification.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One (1) year of medical group experience preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required.
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) certification required.
  • Thorough knowledge of infection control and aseptic techniques.
