Medical Assistant Full and Part-time

Duties

• Makes vital signs
• Verifies medications and medical information via phone
• Prepares and maintains examination and treatment areas
• Performs various treatments as needed
• Performs blood draws
• Maintains medical records
• Performs administrative tasks such as answering phones, typing reports, and escorting visitors
• Obtains specimens as directed

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an approved Medical Assistant program
• Previous relevant work experience preferred
• Current CPR/BLS certification at time of appointment
• Act 33/34 clearances required prior to appointment at the cost of the applicant

Qualifications

• Nursing and medical practices and procedures
• Laws, rules, regulations, and guidelines governing correctional care
• Policies and procedures regarding infection control
• Medical terminology

Skills

• Interacts with inmates
• Makes independent decisions when warranted
• Understands and follows oral and written instructions
• Effectively communicates with jail administrative and medical management, patients, colleagues, and other stakeholders
• Works shifts in a 24/7 facility
• Adapts to changing priorities and manages multiple tasks in a stressful environment

Schedule

The Medical Assistant works on a PRN (per request) basis, allowing for flexibility in the number of days, hours, and shifts worked. Availability is required to work a minimum of three (3) shifts per month, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Pay

$20.0000 per hour

Background Check

A background check, including verification of Allegheny County Real Estate Tax status, and drug/medical examinations are required as part of the hiring process. The pre-employment drug screen must be completed within 48 hours of accepting the conditional offer of employment.
