Medical Assistant - FT - McLeod Pediatric and Adult Endocrinology - Florence

Responsibilities

• Affords assistance in assessing patient needs.
• Executes direct patient care tasks, including triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge, and follow-up instructions.
• Prepares patients for visits with providers.
• Collects and documents pertinent information from patients and families, including vital signs, history, and chief complaints.
• Prepares and scans necessary documents in patient’s medical record as needed.
• Carries out specialized tests such as electrocardiography, pulmonary function tests, sleep studies, Holter monitors, and certain laboratory procedures.
• Administers medications as directed by the physician.
• Assists providers with treatments and procedures as required.
• Schedules testing and referral appointments for patients according to provider instructions.
• Communicates with patients and their families via phone, addressing issues or referring calls to the physician.
• Follows up with patients as necessary.
• Cleans and straightens examination rooms between patients, adhering to OSHA standards.
• Maintains medical supplies and equipment, reporting malfunctions to office management.
• Monitors and updates medical supply inventory, checking expiration dates on medications and vaccines, and disposing of outdated items.
• Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of all equipment used in the practice.
• Schedules and reschedules appointments as needed.
• Encourages patients to sign up for and utilize MyChart for communication with McLeod Health.
• Promotes a learning environment by supporting colleagues’ professional development.
• Promotes the practice’s quality improvement initiatives.
• Promotes the practice’s mission and philosophy.
• Projects a positive image of the practice.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
