Medical Assistant - FT - McLeod Pediatric and Adult Endocrinology - Florence
Responsibilities
- Affords assistance in assessing patient needs.
- Executes direct patient care tasks, including triage, assessment, procedures, treatments, patient education, discharge, and follow-up instructions.
- Prepares patients for visits with providers.
- Collects and documents pertinent information from patients and families, including vital signs, history, and chief complaints.
- Prepares and scans necessary documents in patient’s medical record as needed.
- Carries out specialized tests such as electrocardiography, pulmonary function tests, sleep studies, Holter monitors, and certain laboratory procedures.
- Administers medications as directed by the physician.
- Assists providers with treatments and procedures as required.
- Schedules testing and referral appointments for patients according to provider instructions.
- Communicates with patients and their families via phone, addressing issues or referring calls to the physician.
- Follows up with patients as necessary.
- Cleans and straightens examination rooms between patients, adhering to OSHA standards.
- Maintains medical supplies and equipment, reporting malfunctions to office management.
- Monitors and updates medical supply inventory, checking expiration dates on medications and vaccines, and disposing of outdated items.
- Develops and maintains a comprehensive understanding of all equipment used in the practice.
- Schedules and reschedules appointments as needed.
- Encourages patients to sign up for and utilize MyChart for communication with McLeod Health.
- Promotes a learning environment by supporting colleagues’ professional development.
- Promotes the practice’s quality improvement initiatives.
- Promotes the practice’s mission and philosophy.
- Projects a positive image of the practice.
Qualifications
- Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
