Position Summary
This position coordinates and performs both clerical and clinical activities and functions of the Radiation Oncology department.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain patient charts to include insurance, registration, correspondence, laboratory and radiology reports, track and request patient records, slides and films; document as necessary in the charts.
- Schedule and coordinate appointments, scans and tests; confirm appointments; notify appropriate departments, in writing, of daily and weekly patient schedules.
- Receive all telephone calls coming into the Radiation Oncology office; assist patients, physicians and others with patient-related matters; relay diagnostic test results to patients per physician's discretion; conduct follow-up phone calls to patients with problems and "no-shows."
- Absorb and perform medical history on each patient prior to being seen by physician.
- Prepare monthly statistical data to be reported to Administrator of TCSC.
- Maintain medical supplies in each exam room and office supplies in clerical area.
- Perform pre sterilization processing for minor equipment utilized in Radiation Oncology. Deliver/Retrieve minor equipment form Sterile Processing when needed.
- Maintain patient insurance for hospital admission pre-certification requirements; assist with reimbursement issues as needed.
- Complete forms required for continuity of care, such as patient insurance, home health and hospice.
- Precertifies insurance coverage for procedures and treatments ordered by the physician.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Completes required education assignments annually.
- Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education: None specified; will accept any combination of formal education and/or prior work experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skill and ability needed to perform the essential tasks of the job, typically such as would be equivalent to a high school diploma or GED. Preference may be given to individuals possessing a HS diploma or GED.
- Minimum Experience: Two (2) years of healthcare experience.
- Licensure Requirement: CPR required.
