Responsibilities

  • Affords patients with information through history, observation, physical exam, telephone triage, and analysis of diagnostic results.
  • Assists physicians in assessing patient needs.
  • Prepares patients for visits by the provider.
  • Collects and documents pertinent information from patients and families, including vital signs, history, and chief complaints.
  • Prepares and scans necessary documents in the patient's medical record as needed.
  • Performs specialized tests such as electrocardiography, pulmonary function tests, sleep studies, Holter monitors, and certain laboratory procedures as required.
  • Administers medications as directed by the physician.
  • Supports providers during treatments and procedures.
  • Schedules and reschedules patient appointments as needed.
  • Communicates with patients via phone, addressing their concerns or referring them to the physician.
  • Follows up with patients as necessary.
  • Cleans and straightens examination rooms according to OSHA standards.
  • Maintains medical supply inventory, checks medication and vaccine expiration dates, and disposes of outdated medications.
  • Keeps abreast of new equipment and performs routine maintenance.
  • Encourages patients to use MyChart for communication with McLeod Health.
  • Participates in departmental quality improvement projects.
  • Projects a positive image of the practice.

Qualifications

  • Basic Life Support certification must be obtained within 90 days of hire.
