Medical Assistant/ Front Desk
Position Summary
Flagship Health is seeking a dual Medical Assistant & Front Desk Receptionist to join our team. This dual-role position combines both clinical and administrative responsibilities, serving as a key point of contact for patients throughout their healthcare experience. The ideal candidate will provide exceptional customer service while supporting providers with patient care and ensuring smooth front-office operations. This position requires flexibility, professionalism, strong organizational skills, and a patient-centered approach. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with clinical and administrative staff to promote patient comfort, trust, and high-quality care while exemplifying the organization's mission and values.
Responsibilities
Front Desk Reception Duties
- Greet patients, visitors, and vendors in a professional and courteous manner.
- Answer and direct incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and take messages as needed.
- Schedule, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments.
- Check patients in and out, verify demographic and insurance information, and collect required documentation.
- Process patient payments, issue receipts, and balance daily collections.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure data is entered correctly into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Coordinate communication between patients, providers, and external healthcare organizations.
- Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including faxes, referrals, and medical records requests.
- Support telehealth scheduling and patient preparation for virtual visits.
Medical Assistant Duties
- Prepare for patient visits by reviewing and updating patient records prior to in-person and telehealth appointments.
- Review test results, laboratory reports, and correspondence to ensure records are current.
- Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examination.
- Obtain and document vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, and basic medical history.
- Accurately document patient information according to accepted medical standards.
- Assist physicians and mid-level providers during examinations and procedures as requested.
- Clean and sanitize exam rooms between patients in accordance with infection control and safety standards.
- Maintain exam room supplies and restock clinical inventory as needed.
- Ensure clinical areas remain organized, clean, and fully equipped.
- Alert providers when patients are prepared and ready for examination.
- Adhere to Universal Precautions and all HIPAA confidentiality requirements.
Qualifications
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong focus on customer service.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, providers, and team members while demonstrating professionalism, diplomacy, and tact.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Beginner to intermediate computer skills, including EMR systems, Microsoft Office, and telephone systems.
- Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to assist in both clinical and administrative functions.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations and providing culturally sensitive care.
- Professional appearance and demeanor.
- Bilingual English/Spanish and/or other languages strongly preferred.
- Valid Texas Driver's License, insurance, and ability to travel as required.
Education & Certifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Current Medical Assistant Certification required.
- Current CPR Certification required.
- Previous experience in a medical office, front desk, or patient services role preferred.
