About the role
This position is responsible for administrative and clinical duties delegated by the physician, with a focus on surgery scheduling and cross-training in front desk and referral coordination. The role requires travel between the Bing Cancer Center, Pickerington Methodist Hospital, and Grant Medical Center. Hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate efficient and effective patient flow, including preparing patients for visits and providing services as determined by providers in compliance with licensure and policy.
- Complete Care Connect EMR documentation and perform administrative duties to ensure up-to-date information, including EMR in-basket maintenance.
- Maintain and clean work areas, equipment, and report malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Communicate respectfully with patients and collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure continuity and quality of care.
- Collect and monitor patient data, reporting needs as directed.
- Maintain documentation for patient chargeable items/services.
- Monitor processes and services for quality, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency; engage in process and quality improvement activities.
- Make and implement recommendations to improve operational efficiency and introduce new services.
- Stay current with best practices in the field to maintain professional competence.
- Complete required training and education, including department-specific requirements.
- Promote patient quality, safety, and experience initiatives; act as a role model.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert (SME) in areas such as quality, performance improvement, and EMR (e.g., EPIC Super User).
- Oversee patient flow, including preparation for visits/admissions and providing education as determined by providers.
- Lead and support the development of standard work and customizations.
- Function as a clinical preceptor and train new staff.
- Maintain compliance with scope of practice and High Reliability Organization (HRO) standards for safety, quality, and efficiency.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent and one of the following:
- Completion of a High School Medical Assistant Career Technical Program, or
- Graduation from an accredited School of Medical Assisting, or
- Completion of Military Medic training, or
- Certification as a Paramedic (EMT-P), or
- At least one year of experience as a physician-trained Medical Assistant in a similar clinical setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (40 scheduled weekly hours).
