QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Graduate from a recognized medical assistant program required.
  • Two years’ experience working as a Medical Assistant in a multi-specialty group setting required.
  • Medical Assistant certification and current AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association Certification required.

Essential Functions

  • Cooperates in the cross training of this position to ensure coverage at all times.
  • Collection of patient data to include record keeping ensuring chart is in order.
  • Logs appropriate procedures and tests.
  • Billing and patient charges are kept current.
  • Tick sheets are done accurately and on time.
  • Patient instruction-injections and scheduled medications are documented accurately.
  • Demonstrates technical skills by following all safety policies and procedures involving patient care, i.e. injections, handling instruments, cleaning wounds, handling body fluids.
  • Practices good sterile technique involving minor surgical procedures and handling injuries, wounds, etc.
  • Explain procedure to patient and family to gain cooperation, understanding, and to ease apprehension.
  • Prepare treatment room for examination of patients; assist physician with procedures; clean examination rooms and sterilize appropriate equipment after use.
  • Absolute necessity to administer prescribed medication orally or by injection and document time, dosage and route on patient chart.
  • Complete all documentation to ensure accurate medical records. Assure that physician has signed chart; review physician orders to verify that all orders have been carried out.
  • Returns patient charts to medical records.
  • Inventory and order medical supplies and materials, as needed.
  • Travels between departments and facilities on an as-needed basis based on coverage requirements.
  • Ensures all expired sample medications and patient supplies are discarded upon expiration date.
  • Supports and practices the policies and procedures of nursing services.
  • Functions in the scope of Medical Assistant practice and Riverside Medical Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Maintains current BLS certification.
