Medical Assistant, Float
About the Role
We’re changing lives every day—for both our patients and our team members. The Care Promoter 1, Float is an unlicensed medical professional cross-trained to perform routine administrative and clinical tasks to keep our medical centers running smoothly. Duties vary by setting (size, location, type) and include both administrative and clinical responsibilities under direct physician supervision, in accordance with state medical practice acts. You’ll support our Physician-led Care Teams, delivering excellent and comprehensive primary care to a specific patient population.
Responsibilities
- Measure and record patient vital signs; document patient interviews and medical history.
- Catalog and communicate patient needs to the Primary Care Physician (PCP), Clinician, Specialist, and/or other clinical personnel.
- Prepare patients for examinations, perform routine screening tests, assist physicians with exams, and explain treatment procedures and instructions.
- Observe patients and report any changes in condition to the PCP, Clinician, Specialist, and/or other clinical personnel.
- Perform non-critical medical and therapeutic procedures based on medical instructions.
- Collect phlebotomy and other lab specimens; perform basic waived lab tests.
- Prepare and administer medications; change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, perform first aid, and use CPR skills when necessary—all under physician supervision.
- Maintain supplies, equipment, and instrument sterilization; practice OSHA safety standards; ensure accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
- Process patient phone messages, return calls, and route them to appropriate team members; call patients to relay pertinent information for the physician.
- Call in prescriptions to the pharmacy upon physician approval and authorization; authorized individuals will use the ChenMed Rx system for medication dispensing.
- Provide health coaching to a defined group of patients to support healthy lifestyle choices, with weekly follow-up calls.
- Perform other duties as assigned or modified at the manager’s discretion.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Graduation from a nationally accredited program in one of the following: Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Paramedic.
- A minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Medical Assistant, Patient Care Technician, EMT, or Paramedic.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers certification required.
- Experience working with geriatric patients is a plus.
- EMR system experience preferred.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and other word-processing, spreadsheet, database, email, and presentation software.
- Willingness to travel to local centers as needed for coverage.
- Spoken and written fluency in English.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed.
Pay
The posted pay range represents the base hourly rate for this position: $17.00 - $24.26 per hour. Final compensation will depend on factors such as experience, education, geographic location, and other relevant considerations. This position may also be eligible for bonuses or commissions.
