Job Description
Aid physicians with medical procedures in the office setting. Duties include phlebotomy, laboratory testing, quality control, instrument troubleshooting, and maintenance. Key responsibilities involve performing quality control procedures, conducting blood work, drawing blood, following laboratory procedures, preparing slides, sending lab reports, maintaining logs, and documenting patient encounters.
- Perform proper quality control procedures before patient testing.
- Conduct laboratory blood work.
- Draw blood.
- Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling and processing.
- Execute technical laboratory procedures with accuracy and precision.
- Prepare blood or bone marrow slides for evaluation.
- Send lab reports to appropriate facilities.
- Maintain test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists.
- Adhere to AON patient ID policy and procedure.
- Obtain vital signs, height, weight, pain level, and PHQ9 depression screening.
- Document in the Onco/EMR system.
- Place patient in exam room and prepare for physician.
- Receive lab reports via various methods and document in the patient's chart or Onco/EMR.
- Aid physicians with medical procedures such as bone marrows, fine needle aspirates, paracentesis, and pelvic exams.
- Document thorough patient testing/treatment in the medical record chart.
- Create encounter forms for charging services and initialing steps in the EMR for electronic superbills.
- Show physician critical blood counts according to guidelines.
- Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and place orders with purchasing as needed.
- Initiate troubleshooting procedures for instrument malfunctions and contact service companies if necessary.
- Perform EKG testing where applicable.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies.
- Take required CEUs annually to meet C.O.L.A. requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment.
- Comply with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Adhere to AON and departmental policies and procedures.
- Train new employees on related job duties.
- Work at any AON location to meet business needs.
- Work overtime when required.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED.
- Required BLS certification.
- Valid driver's license and vehicle for travel to other clinic locations.
- One year experience as a medical assistant in clinic or physician's office with venipuncture ability.
