Medical Assistant (Flex) - Moreno Valley
About the role
Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest is seeking a Medical Assistant for our Health Center in San Diego, CA. The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of reproductive health care services under the medical supervision of Clinicians and Physicians. Key responsibilities include screening clients, preparing exam rooms, assisting providers, and performing various administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Screen clients, prepare exam rooms, and cover the front office as needed.
- Provide testing, screening, and education required for medical reproductive health care.
- Aid providers to ensure high-quality, efficient care delivery.
- Assist with obtaining medical history, interviewing clients, and educating them on informed consent.
- Perform basic lab work, package specimens for outside labs, and record lab results.
- Obtain vital signs and clean and sterilize equipment and stock exam rooms.
- Support clinicians by assisting with tasks such as injections and monitoring vital signs.
- Provide options and abortion education, make appointments, and refer clients for follow-up medical services.
- Manage client finances, verify insurance, and collect fees and donations.
- Input and update client data in the Agency’s Practice Management system and Electronic Medical Record system.
- Coordinate front-office functions such as greeting clients, answering phones, making appointments, and assessing client finances.
- Prepare the center for opening and secure it for closing as required.
- Ensure ongoing communication with Patient Flow Coordinator, Center Manager, and other center staff.
- Monitor center flow and client wait time.
- Adhere to safety policies and procedures, including infection control.
- Participate in trainings, staff meetings, and in-services to maintain and increase knowledge of protocols and procedures.
- Ensure client satisfaction and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Report errors, near misses, and safety concerns in a timely manner.
- Communicate identified risks to supervisor to minimize risk.
- Comply with the Agency’s Code of Conduct and maintain professional and ethical standards.
Requirements
- High School diploma equivalent or Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
- Two years comparable clinical back office medical assistant, Long-Term Care/Care Partners, Medication Technician experience.
- Experience in Women's Healthcare preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in this role preferred.
Qualifications
- Ability to screen clients, prepare exam rooms, and cover the front office when necessary.
- Excellent customer service skills in a non-judgmental, empathetic manner.
- High School diploma equivalent or Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program.
- Two years comparable clinical back office medical assistant, Long-Term Care/Care Partners, Medication Technician experience.
- Experience in Women's Healthcare preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of reproductive health care and ability to provide education and counseling.
- Basic laboratory skills and familiarity with medical terminology.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in using electronic medical records and practice management systems.
