Medical Assistant - Family Practice

About the Role

Responsible for ensuring delivery of quality nursing care to clinic patients as directed by physicians and other healthcare providers. The Clinic LPN functions as a core member of the interdisciplinary care team and fulfills/shares the roles and responsibilities of rooming nurse, resource nurse, and clinical support nurse in the ambulatory patient care setting.

Responsibilities

• Assesses and implements patient care under supervision.
• Prepares patient for examination.
• Provides direct patient care.
• Assists provider with examination and treatment of patient as directed.
• Under the oversight of provider, may be responsible for telephone triage using age specific triage protocol books and computerized resources.
• Documents patient care in health record according to department standards.
• Obtains and conveys information to and from patients, pharmacies, and other providers as directed and supervised by a licensed provider.
• May obtain referral authorizations for treatment as directed by provider.
• Ensures own professional effectiveness through continued education and professional development.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant/Medical Office Assistant program, or MA Apprenticeship program.
• Minimum of 1 year experience.
• Preferred: medical office experience as an MA.

Qualifications

• Washington State MA certification (MA-C) or LPN licensure (Required upon hire).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross (Required at date of hire).
• National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.

Skills

• Basic computer skills required including familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Cooperative working and interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of patients, families and staff.
• Effective prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple clinical tasks at one time.
• Well organized, detail oriented, flexible and able to function independently.

Working Conditions

• Lifting: Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without the use of assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH).
• Fine motor skills to grasp and control medical equipment and perform precise procedures.
• Push/Pull: Frequently up to 45 lbs. force (i.e., WOW, medical carts).
• Perform hands on CPR at least 20 mins using 100-125 lbs. of force (National Assoc. of EMS Physicians and AHA). Frequency should be seldom or occasionally.
• Ability to move around area with frequent sitting.
• Bending/ stooping/ squatting/ reaching/ kneeling frequently.
• Lifting (non-patient) up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently.
• Exposure to biohazard, body fluids and airborne particles.
• Must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment.
• Vision and hearing required within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
• Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.

Pay

The salary range for this job opening is $26.64 - $35.96 per hour. The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.
