About the Role
As a Medical Assistant (internally known as Lab Services Specialist/Member Support Specialist) at one of our offices focused on our Senior Health member population (age 65+), you’ll provide an exceptional experience for our patients and help them accomplish an important part of their care journey by providing venipuncture and other clinical support services. You will be an ambassador for patients, mastering human connection and demonstrating a strong drive for service. You will remove barriers to care, ensuring a truly exceptional in-office patient experience. You will steward the office space, ensuring the lobby aligns with the One Medical brand. As the first point of contact for patients, you will also provide support as requested by the Practice Coordinator, Operations Manager, or providers.
Responsibilities
- Use impeccable C-I-CARE (a framework for effective communication) in all patient interactions, both clinical and administrative, ensuring a fluid and positive in-office experience through patient intake, same-day schedule management, follow-up scheduling, billing and insurance knowledge, monitoring patient feedback, and assisting with outreach.
- Provide best-in-class venipuncture services for a population ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics, depending on the office location.
- Perform and assist with extended scope duties such as non-blood specimen collection, EKGs/ECGs, vitals, ear lavages, vaccines, PPD tests, and swabs.
- Maintain high standards of in-office care through proper specimen labeling, handling and processing, inventory upkeep, and tool sterilization.
- Care for members beyond the lab room by answering patient messages, following up on lab cases, and assisting providers and the virtual medical team with clerical duties such as biometric screening forms, medical record and consult review, billing inquiries, and DOH reporting.
- Handle all front-of-house duties, including check-in/check-out, insurance verification, printing/paperwork tasks, prepping tests, and tasking to service level expectations.
- Contribute to team development through rounding, attending team huddles, participating in problem-solving, and supporting in-office providers with ad hoc tasks.
- Perform opening and closing duties, including daily office upkeep, maintaining the look and feel of patient and employee spaces, restocking supplies, and organization.
- Master our technology suite, including Slack, G-suite, Zoom, Circulation, RingCentral, and our Electronic Medical Record System to interact with team members and complete daily work.
Requirements
Must hold one or more of the following credentials, qualifications, or experience:
- Medical Assistant certification from a nationally recognized certifying body (e.g., AAMA, NHA, NCCT, AMT, AMCA, NAHP, NCMA, or any NCCA/ANSI-accredited organization) — must be currently active or have been active within the last 6 months.
- Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) credential from a nationally recognized certifying body — must be currently active or have been active within the last 6 months.
- Graduation from a Medical Assistant program accredited by CAAHEP, ABHES, or a U.S. Department of Education-recognized accrediting body (no expiration applies).
- Completion of Medical Assistant training through the U.S. Armed Forces (no expiration applies).
- At least 6 months of relevant experience as a Medical Assistant or Phlebotomist outside of a training/externship environment.
Additional Requirements:
- Demonstrated proficiency in either venipuncture techniques (including site selection, needle insertion, and blood collection procedures) or vaccine administration and injection techniques (including proper needle handling, site preparation, and patient safety protocols).
- Strong customer service skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Proficiency in computer technology such as typing, navigating the internet, and using multiple software systems simultaneously.
- Experience working on collaborative, diverse, multi-disciplinary teams (additional experience with remote teams a plus).
- A proven ability to display confidence and instill trust during the collection process while delivering individualized, human-centered, customer-focused care.
- A proven track record of persisting through change, consistently stepping up to take action on challenges, and learning quickly and effectively when faced with new situations or tasks.
Pay
Competitive salary starting at $19 per hour based on a full-time schedule.
Schedule
This is a full-time role (40 hours/week) with 8-hour shifts generally taking place between 7:30 AM–5:30 PM, based in the office in Hanover, NH, presently focused on our Senior Health member population (age 65+).
