About the role
The Banner – University Medicine Diabetes and Endocrinology Institute aims to manage and treat various complications and illnesses associated with diabetes, metabolism-related ailments, and obesity. As a Medical Assistant on this team, you will play a crucial role in ensuring each patient receives top-notch customer service and care.
Responsibilities
- Taking and recording vital signs, symptoms, and other necessary measurements, and documenting chief complaints.
- Reporting the condition of the patient to the clinician which may indicate changes in the patient's condition.
- Auxiliary roles during exams and minor in-office procedures, such as taking blood pressure, measuring respiration and heart rate/pulse, taking temperature, performing phlebotomies, ear irrigation, and EKGs.
- Assisting with patient care coordination, including pre-certifications, referrals, authorizations, prescriptions, and scheduling of patients for clinic, hospital, and other medical treatments and tests.
- Communicating test results to the patient.
- Supporting the clinician in providing optimal patient care.
- Administering medications in accordance with established policies and procedures or as directed.
- Completing clerical tasks, including patient/client notifications, documentation of medical records, and billing-related tasks.
- Maintaining a clean and functional environment by cleaning and disinfecting equipment, exam rooms, and storage areas.
- Ordering supplies as directed and coordinating needed maintenance for prompt repairs.
- Providing support to administrative staff by answering phones, checking in patients, scheduling appointments, following up with referrals, and stocking rooms.
Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
- Active Medical Assistant Certification is required.
- BLS certification required.
- Experience with office medical procedures and treatments, and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software is preferred.
Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.
- Completion of an approved medical assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
- Active Medical Assistant Certification is required.
- Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for Meaningful use.
- BLS certification required.
- Active Medical Assistant certification such as: Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT).
- Requires strong computer skills, including the ability to work with medical software.
- Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Requires the ability to manage multiple changing priorities in an effective and organized fashion.

This position offers an attractive compensation package, including a $80 allowance for scrubs included. Employees also have the opportunity to pursue further education and career advancement within the organization.
Pay
$X per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Schedule
Full-time (40 hours/week), day shift position: Monday-Friday 7:00AM-5:30PM, 8 hour days. Clinic is closed on weekends and holidays.
