About the role

As a Medical Assistant, you will assist Physicians and other Providers by preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies, and supporting patient care.

Schedule

Monday - Friday | Hours will vary between 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and document intake.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Organize patient flow.
  • Set up procedure trays, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
  • Assist providers with dermatology procedures.
  • Prepare pathology/lab specimens and route to the correct lab based on patient insurance plan.
  • Respond to patient questions in-office and on the phone as instructed.
  • Review and address clinical task lists and nurse line messages.
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory all equipment and instruments according to schedule; maintain appropriate records of maintenance.
  • Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
  • Maintain infection control and ensure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
  • Order, sort, restock, and inventory all supplies.
  • Accurately document patient information and scribe provider notes in the EMR.
  • Assist with administration of local anesthetic.
  • Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Able to triage patient concerns.
  • Familiar with and compliant with OSHA/HIPAA, infection control, and Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
  • Experience administering injections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.
  • Knowledge of office financial policies.
  • Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
  • Able to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, fax, copier, scanner).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively, and courteously with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to spell, sort, and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time.
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
  • Use of hands and fingers.
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
  • Handling of materials such as paper and supplies.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
