Job Description

We are seeking a Medical Assistant to join the ASAS Health team! This position emphasizes quality of care and customer service through collaboration with all Clinical services staff.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares for patient visits by reviewing and updating patient records, checking for updates of recent test results, lab results, and correspondence.
  • Maintains exam rooms according to protocols: cleans rooms between patient exams to ensure patients' comfort and compliance with infection control standards; ensures all necessary supplies are stocked.
  • Makes patients ready for a visit and alerts the physician/mid-level provider when the patient is ready to be seen.
  • Provides initial medical screening: greets patients and directs them to the appropriate exam room. Takes weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, and basic medical history; accurately documents in medical chart according to generally accepted medical standards.
  • Aids physicians or mid-level providers during the patient's examination according to generally accepted medical standards.
  • Utilizes time constructively and efficiently by assisting in such duties as restocking rooms/shelves/trays, checking supplies, and ensuring that all areas and exam rooms are clean and orderly.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills at the level necessary for taking patients' medical histories, understanding provider and supervisor’s instructions, and accurately documenting patients' medical information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patient population and staff while demonstrating a high degree of diplomacy and tact.
  • Beginner to intermediate computing and phone skills.
  • Demonstrates flexibility regarding job duties and assignments.
  • Willingness to cross-train within other departments within your scope of duties.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress and fast-moving environment.
  • Culturally sensitive and demonstrated ability and effectiveness working with ethnically diverse populations.
  • Working knowledge of “Universal Precautions” always demonstrates professionalism.
  • Thoroughly understands the importance of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to the general standards set forth by HIPAA.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish and other languages strongly preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License preferred, insurance, and ability to travel as required to perform duties.

Education

  • High school Graduate (or GED) required.
  • Current, valid Certification of Medical Assistant, preferred.
  • Current, valid CPR certification.

At ASAS, we are committed to supporting the professional development of our team. New hires who join without a current Medical Assistant certification are required to obtain their certification or recertification within 90 days of their start date. To support this, ASAS will reimburse up to $250 in related expenses, this includes $150 for the certification exam and $100 for approved training materials.
