Responsibilities
- Takes vital signs
- Administers a limited profile of medications per Emory Clinic approved policy
- Performs simple diagnostic tests
- Collects specimens
- Draws blood
- Sterilizes and cleans equipment
- Maintains examination rooms
- Promotes a supportive and healing environment
- Assists in emergency situations
- Maintains a clean and healthy environment in compliance with Universal Precaution guidelines and safety standards
- Orders, verifies, and stores unit supplies
- Performs patient and practice administrative duties including: patient check in/out, chart prep, POS collection, scheduling follow-up appointments, scheduling ancillary & procedure appointments, uploading imaging and records, precertification for procedures, Zendesk requests, bump list, answering calls, and charge entry admin pool messages
- All duties and patient interaction performed in accordance with Emory Healthcare patient and family centered care standards
- May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Basic computer skills required
- One year work experience preferred
- Current AHA BLS certification is required for hire and must be maintained throughout employment
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists (AMT), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Preferred certification is the CMA or RMA
- Must successfully complete all medical assistant orientation and training requirements and annual skills competency
Qualifications
- Physical requirements: 20-50 lbs; 0-33% of the work day (occasionally); 11-25 lbs, 34-66% of the workday (frequently); 01-10 lbs, 67-100% of the workday (constantly); Lifting 50 lbs max; Carrying of objects up to 25 lbs; Occasional to frequent standing & walking, Occasional sitting, Close eye work (computers, typing, reading, writing)
- Environmental factors: Factors affecting environment conditions may vary depending on the assigned work area and work tasks. Environmental exposures include, but are not limited to: Blood-borne pathogen exposure Bio-hazardous waste Chemicals/gases/fumes/vapors Communicable diseases Electrical shock, Floor Surfaces, Hot/Cold Temperatures, Indoor/Outdoor conditions, Latex, Lighting, Patient care/handling injuries, Radiation, Shift work, Travel may be required. Use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, environmental conditions may vary depending on assigned work area and work tasks.
