Responsibilities
- Escorts patients to exam rooms and obtains/records vital signs and medication lists.
- Monitors patient flow and assists physicians with minor clinical procedures.
- Performs EKGs and prepares patient charts with pertinent medical information.
- Schedules diagnostic tests ordered by the physician as needed.
- Performs various office and clerical duties, including maintaining files, records, and inventory.
- Ensures patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
- Maintains a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations.
- Ensures compliance with infection control policies.
- Determines patient care needs and directs patients accordingly.
- Prepares patient charts prior to appointments, including obtaining x-rays and lab work.
- Sets up exam rooms, assists with exams, and monitors patient flow.
- Prepares patients for examinations and records vital signs.
- Ensures healthcare delivery areas are stocked, organized, cleaned, and disinfected.
- Manages office supply inventory, photocopying, faxing, mailing, and prioritizing incoming mail.
- Implements physician orders for medications and treatments.
- Provides coverage for co-workers and communicates patient status.
- Assists physicians with exams and procedures.
- Records patient information in charts/EHR according to Joint Commission standards.
- Obtains blood samples by venipuncture or capillary methods.
- Screens and processes specimens according to established guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate from an accredited school of Medical Assistant Certificate/Diploma program.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification from American Heart Association.
- Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) certification (if no card upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days).
- Current Medical Laboratory Personnel License – NV (if no card upon hire, must be obtained within 30 days).
Preferred Qualifications
- 1 year of experience; combined education/experience may substitute for minimum experience.
- Experience in an acute care setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Familiarity with word processing, GECB, COR, Cerner, ProSolv, and scheduling software.
Pay
The hourly rate range for this position is $21.00 - $27.01. When extending an offer of employment, factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal/state/local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations are taken into account.
