About the Role

The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The CMA performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice that assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients, ensuring the clinic runs smoothly.

Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Takes medical histories and records vital signs.
  • Explains treatment procedures to patients and prepares them for examinations and procedures.
  • Assists medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures.
  • Collects and prepares laboratory specimens, performs basic laboratory tests in the clinic/office.
  • Performs electrocardiograms, removes sutures/staples, and changes sterile and non-sterile dressings.
  • Promotes patient/family understanding of educational content and their involvement in the plan of care.
  • Documents in the patient record.
  • Disposes of contaminated supplies and processes instruments, including high-level disinfection and sterilization of medical instruments.
  • Telephones prescriptions to a pharmacy, prepares and administers medications as directed by a physician, and authorizes drug refills as directed.
  • Performs other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, answers telephones, and schedules appointments, including arrive appointments in MaestroCare.
  • Checks out patients and schedules referrals.
  • Arranges for hospital admissions and laboratory services.
  • Updates and files patient medical records.
  • Fills out insurance forms, handles billing, bookkeeping (including receiving copays and collections on account balances), and correspondence.
  • Orders clinical and clerical supplies and forms.
  • Performs other administrative duties as directed.
  • May serve as a liaison for clinic activities such as Joint Commission and falls and/or participate in clinic committees.

Requirements

  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA required.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
  • No experience required (Level I). Note: 1 year of experience will be provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience within pain medicine and/or physical medicine & rehabilitation.

Schedule

Day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.

Pay

$7,500 commitment bonus for qualifying candidates.
