Medical Assistant Certified Lead - Urgent Care

Support patient care by preparing patients and treatment rooms, performing accurate data entry for patient registration, and verifying insurance details. Demonstrate sound judgment and effective communication with patients, families, licensed personnel, insurance companies, and third-party payers while maintaining a professional and caring manner. Ensure compliance with quality control standards (HIPAA/OSHA).

Responsibilities

  • Meet expectations of applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Keep manager informed of any issues with patients, staff, or physicians beyond comfort level or that are questionable.
  • Monitor quality control standards (immunization logs, waived testing, drug sample logs, equipment sterilization logs, etc.).
  • Resolve less complicated patient, staff, and physician issues; report associate non-compliance with policies to manager.
  • Provide staff training and onboard checklists.
  • Prepare patients for examination and treatment, including setting up exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments.
  • Utilize knowledge of sterile technique and infection control procedures to clean, disinfect rooms and equipment, and sterilize instruments as needed.
  • Prepare, maintain, and order inventory supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization and other departmental supplies.
  • Assist providers in preparing for minor surgeries or physicals.
  • Schedule tests, treatments, and referrals; manage patient appointments, answer phones, and keep providers informed of changes.
  • Inform patients of their benefits and maintain patient files, records, and other information professionally following policy and procedures.
  • Comply and condense technical and statistical data for reports and records.
  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested.
  • Participate in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
  • Use oral and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear, positive manner consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission.
  • Maintain established CHRISTUS Health policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Follow CHRISTUS Health guidelines related to HIPAA to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Perform other related work as required.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Minimum of two (2) or more years of relevant experience.

Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
