Medical Assistant Certified - Cardiology

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and obtain vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, height, weight, and BMI.
  • Collect and document patient medical histories, medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Under supervision of provider, assist during examinations and minor procedures.
  • Administer immunizations as authorized and within scope of practice.
  • Perform phlebotomy and specimen collection as needed.

Cardiology-Specific Responsibilities

  • Perform EKGs/ECGs.
  • Prepare and educate patients for cardiac diagnostic testing, including:
    • Stress testing
    • Holter monitor placement and removal
    • Event monitor placement and removal
    • Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
    • Echocardiogram preparation
  • Monitor patients during cardiac testing as directed, under provider supervision.
  • Download, process, and transmit cardiac monitoring data.
  • Educate patients on cardiac medications, diet, exercise, and follow-up care as directed by providers.

Administrative Support

  • Schedule appointments, procedures, and diagnostic testing.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations and referrals as required.
  • Manage patient communications, including phone calls, portal messages, and follow-up instructions.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Process prescription refill requests according to office protocols, under provider supervision/delegation.

Quality and Compliance

  • Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, infection control, and safety standards.
  • Maintain examination rooms, supplies, and equipment.
  • Ensure proper sterilization and cleaning procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
  • Maintain competency and certification requirements.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • High school Diploma or equivalent
  • 1 year experience in direct patient care
  • Cardiology experience preferred
  • AHA BLS Certification
  • Possess exceptional communication skills, critical thinking skills, and independent decision-making skills.
