Medical Assistant, Cardiology
About the role
The Mass General Brigham Medical Group is a system-led operating entity within Mass General Brigham, focusing on delivering high-quality, low-cost, innovative community-based ambulatory care. Wentworth Health Partners Cardiology is a full-service practice offering a broad spectrum of cardiology services, including general and interventional cardiology, heart failure, interventional procedures, electrophysiology, device implants, anticoagulation management, and more.
Responsibilities
- Takes vital signs, documents patient information, schedules appointments, and manages patient flow.
- Supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers.
- Interviews patients to obtain medical information, measures vital signs, weight, and height, and records information in the patient's medical record.
- Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
- Performs general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
- Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, logs them, and prepares them for testing; performs phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
- Maintains inventory of immunizations and checks expiration dates.
- Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
- Improves appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
- Associate's Degree in Medical Assisting preferred.
- Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required.
- Basic Life Support [BLS Certification] - preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant [National Certification] - preferred.

- Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and protocols.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical office software.
- Logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Time management and ability to manage one's own time and the time of others.
