Office Hours: Monday–Friday, 8 AM–4:30 PM (no weekends)

About the Department

Henry Ford Genesys Heart Center – Grand Blanc offers a team of cardiologists experienced in delivering heart care for the unique needs of women—from preventive care to managing heart disease, high blood pressure, and complex heart conditions during pregnancy. We deliver care for the whole you—your physical and emotional health—and help you understand how being pregnant, hormonal changes during menopause, and other health conditions impact your heart.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examination, procedure, and treatment.
  • Obtain vital signs and record them in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Obtain and record patient history using critical thinking skills.
  • Prepare for, set up, and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments per protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare, administer, and document oral, parenteral medications, and immunizations as ordered by the supervising provider, consistently following the six rights of medication administration.
  • Maintain accurate immunization and medication administration records.
  • Document care provided during patient visits in the EHR.
  • Recognize and respond to emergencies.
  • Actively monitor and respond to patient requests via telephone, In Basket messages, and/or MyChart according to identified time frames, documenting responses in the EHR.
  • Enter medication, radiology, and lab orders in the EHR per protocol for provider sign-off.
  • Discharge patients, providing after-visit instructions as directed by the provider.
  • Prepare medication refill/requests for provider review and signature in the EHR.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160-hour minimum), or graduate from a Medical Assistant program without a clinical externship but with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five years, or current professionally recognized Medical Assistant certification with at least one year of experience in clinical medical assisting, or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year of clinical experience in a medical setting within the past five years, or military-trained medical personnel with at least one year of clinical experience in a medical setting within the past five years.
  • Current BLS-C certification upon hire or successful completion by the end of orientation.
  • Must successfully complete all components of Ambulatory orientation as defined by Henry Ford Health.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care.
  • Ability to problem-solve.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience.
