Medical Assistant - Burrows Internal Medicine

About the role

The Medical Assistant will assist the provider in examination and treatment of patients by performing various duties. This includes completing intake, preparing patients for visits, documenting vital signs, assisting during examinations, maintaining supplies, and ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.

Responsibilities

• Welcomes patients and prepares them for healthcare visits
• Places patients in exam rooms and obtains medical histories
• Populates electronic medical records with accurate and timely information
• Performs point-of-care tests as appropriate
• Maintains supplies and disinfects treatment rooms
• Maintains a professional and respectful working environment
• Completes pre-visit planning and checks logs and equipment
• Addresses voicemails and messages in the electronic medical record
• Supports the front office as needed, including check-in, check-out, appointment scheduling, and answering phones
• Maintains a professional relationship with vendors
• Complies with HIPAA guidelines

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Graduate of an accredited healthcare program (Medical Assistant, CNA, LPN, EMT, etc.)
• Must maintain certifications per state guidelines
• Nationally recognized as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred
• Strong computer skills, especially with EMR systems
• Ability to communicate effectively and actively listen
• Accurately maintains medical records

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of experience in Family or Pediatrics
• Experience with Athenahealth practice management system

Skills

Ability to communicate appropriately, actively listen, and respond appropriately. Strong computer skills, especially with EMR systems. Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines.
