About the role

This role is in a Community Health clinical site setting, working on a team of committed professionals supporting Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurses while providing patient care and administrative duties necessary to deliver quality patient care to a diverse and vulnerable population.

Responsibilities

  • Provide full-cycle appointment management for clinic site (patient follow-up and drop-in appointments, specialty services, and testing) to optimize clinic patient hours.
  • Document all services in eClinical Works (EMR) system.
  • Manage all front office tasks including basic intake and collection of patient demographics, insurance information, privacy practice forms, co-pay collection and management, faxing, and filing.
  • Coordinate referrals with patient contact for date of appointment.
  • Verify insurance for all patients requesting a visit.
  • Ensure all registration information is completed and updated accurately at the time of each appointment.
  • Responsible for printing pre-visit planning in preparation for huddle.
  • Follow all Federal, State, and City regulations and guidelines regarding medical clinic operations.
  • Understand and adhere to CFH’s Medical Clinic Policy and Procedures.
  • Assist in taking medical histories, vital signs, recording height and weight at Nurse Manager/Provider request.
  • Perform phlebotomy and collect lab specimens using appropriate protocols, such as infection control. Log information into EMR/vendor system, label, and route lab specimens according to standard procedure.
  • Ensure results are received on all lab specimens submitted.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of examination rooms.
  • Ensure medical supplies are maintained and reordered; dispose of expired supplies according to procedures.
  • Perform equipment checks and complete required logs, including refrigerator logs, eyewash logs, sample medication logs, AED, and other required checks/logs.
  • Liaise with laboratories and pharmacies as directed by provider and Nurse Manager.
  • Perform monthly NYSDOH Article 28 policy walkthroughs and submit work orders as indicated.
  • Assist with change of simple dressings, check urine for glucose and ketones, and other tests as directed by Nurse Managers and provider staff.
  • Perform EKG exams and point-of-care testing as directed by the provider (HIV, Hep C, additional CLIA waived tests).
  • Perform all required point-of-care proficiency tests and lot-specific Quality Assurance checks; log all results for point-of-care testing.
  • Report issues or challenges to provider(s), Nurse Managers, and Director of Practice Management.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; AA degree preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certification.
  • Basic Life Support Certificate required.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant with medical office experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience using eClinical Works is a plus.
