About the role

The Medical Assistant supports Physicians and Providers by preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies, and assisting with patient care.

To be considered for this role, you must be fluent in both English and Spanish.

Pay

$18–23/hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and confirm first and last name and date of birth.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Organize patient flow.
  • Set up procedure trays, instruments, and equipment as instructed.
  • Prepare pathology/lab specimens and route to the correct lab based on patient insurance.
  • Respond to patient questions in-office and by phone as instructed.
  • Monitor to-dos and the nurse line.
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize, and inventory equipment and instruments per schedule; maintain records of maintenance.
  • Maintain medication supplies, discard expired items, and keep accurate records.
  • Uphold infection control standards and ensure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
  • Order, sort, restock, and inventory all supplies.
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients; thoroughly review wound care when applicable.
  • Administer anesthesia/injections for procedures.
  • Ensure timely handling of phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance.

Requirements

  • Able to triage patient problems.
  • Familiar with and compliant with OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
  • Experience administering injections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, and ICD-10 codes.
  • Understanding of office financial policies.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with EMR systems.
  • Able to operate standard office equipment (e.g., computer, fax, copier, scanner).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced, occasionally stressful environment.
  • Ability to work effectively, cooperatively, and courteously with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize appropriately, and work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to spell, sort, and file materials correctly (alphabetically or numerically).

Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or a bachelor’s degree in pre-med or pre-physician’s assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certification preferred.
  • 1–2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Moderate talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
  • Use of hands and fingers.
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
  • Handling materials such as paper and supplies.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and potential injury from chemicals and sharp objects.
