MEDICAL ASSISTANT-BILINGUAL (SPAINSH)

About the role

This position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Cook County and the SEIU Union. Cook County will exhaust internal eligible applicants prior to considering external applicants.

Responsibilities

• Obtains medical history, vital signs, and reviews patient or employee medical records for completeness.
• Aids in preparing patient rooms for medical visits and cleans exam rooms after each patient visit.
• Assists with clerical duties such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and billing.
• Performs laboratory procedures, administers medications, and completes compliance reports.
• Supports the provider staff with completing referrals for diagnostic testing and specialist follow-ups.
• Communicates patient needs to providers and supports Joint Commission Surveys and rounds.
• Maintains clinical supplies and reports malfunctions to the staff physician or clinical coordinator.
• Provides an accurate medication list for patients and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, a formal medical service training program of the United States Armed Forces, or five (5) years of recent full-time professional Medical Assistant experience.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health career Association (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistant (ARMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), or the Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA).
• Certified as a Registered Medical Assistant.
• Completion of a Cook County Medical Assistant Training Program prior to starting employment.
• CPR Certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
• Bilingual-Spanish proficiency (Bilingual testing for Spanish will be administered).

• Physical demands include standing and walking 80% of the day, lifting/pushing/pulling up to 25 lbs, using both hands and fingers for handling.

Pay

Salary is commensurate with years of experience indicated at the time of application submittal. Experience not disclosed or documented at the time of application will not be considered for initial step placement.
