Medical Assistant

About the role

The Medical Assistant works under the direction of the physician and RN, taking vital signs, assisting with data collection, providing direct care, and performing tasks as directed. This position coordinates laboratory and radiology appointments, referrals, and directs patients to the proper services with all needed requisitions. Maintains patient charts and logs, provides secretarial support, and assists with registration and billing.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care to patients.
• Provides care to patients as instructed in accordance with established procedures.
• Escorts patients to exam rooms, interviews patients, measures vital signs (height, weight, blood pressure, pulse ox, temperature), and documents all information in the patient’s chart.
• Obtains all related reports, labs, information, and files in patients’ medical records in accordance with established procedures.
• Ensures exam rooms are stocked with adequate medical supplies and cleaned in accordance with practice standards.
• Performs required checks (e.g., refrigerator temperature, emergency medications, expired medications, oxygen, cold sterilization fluid change).
• Schedules and verifies patient appointments, including insurance verification.
• Records all necessary patient, guarantor, and financial information during registration.
• Gathers all proper forms and obtains necessary signatures.
• Maintains logs, charts, and appointment books.
• Checks expiration dates on all stored medications, vaccines, and supplies weekly.
• Updates laboratory and x-ray logs daily.
• May perform specialized procedures such as blood draws and EKGs.
• Maintains patient charts and logs, provides secretarial support, and assists with registration as needed.
• Travel to other locations may be required.
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1-3 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred.
• Travel to other locations may be required as needed.
