POSITION SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant works with the Physician and other members of the primary or specialty care team by performing a variety of clinical and administrative patient-related duties. The Medical Assistant also works to fulfill a variety of patient needs and ensures smooth patient flow within the department.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Greets patients on the phone and in person
- Places patients in the exam rooms
- Takes vital signs and performs ancillary tests appropriate to skill level
- Auxiliaries providers during examination, treatment, and procedures
- Keeps accurate patient files
- Applies dressing, bandages, and splints as ordered by provider
- Ensures rooms are stocked with necessary supplies
- Maintains a sanitized and safe working environment
- Maintains HIPAA compliance
- Coordination of services between multiple practices demonstrated by excellent communication skills
- Performs administrative tasks and must be cross-trained on front desk responsibilities to provide support as needed
Required:
- 1+ years medical assistant experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current American Heart Association CPR Certification
- Certification from an approved medical assistant program or equivalent combination of training
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work unsupervised or with minimal supervision
- Ability to respond appropriately to emergencies
- Ability to adapt to advancement and changing technology
- Ability to show attention to detail, accuracy and thoroughness
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with all levels of staff
- Basic typing skills to input various data into Information systems
- Experience in an outpatient practice
- Able to coordinate patient services, assist patients with office, medications and procedure authorizations and explain process to patients
- Experience with EMR and performing chart abstraction into EMR
- Strong computer skills and use of Microsoft office
- Ability to prioritize work efficiently
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and writing skills
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Must be able to multi-task and be flexible in changing work assignments at short notice, which includes increasing work hours as needed to cover the practice needs
- Ability to work in a fast-paced setting
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time
Education and Experience
- Minimum High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience in fast-paced scheduling or call center
- 1+ years of customer service experience
- Experience working with performance metrics
- Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
