Essential Job Duties
- Safely prepares, administers, and charts oral, topical, and suppository drugs.
- Checks and prepares each dose immediately preceding administration.
- Follows administration protocol:
- Checks medication with transcribed or original order.
- Checks all information on label or package for accuracy and clarity.
- Clearly identifies the resident with proper medication.
- Demonstrates and appreciates the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the normal changes of aging.
- Reports and records observations and results of treatments, tests, procedures and specimens when indicated.
- Transfers, transports and escorts residents as needed.
- Answers signal lights promptly.
- Changes bed linens, makes beds and keeps rooms clean and orderly.
- Assists with quality improvement programs.
- Constant contact with residents, family members and staff. Contact requires the ability to communicate with cooperative and courteous attitude despite simultaneous tasks.
Qualifications
- Medical Assistant certification required with registration in the state of Michigan.
- Prior geriatric nursing assistant experience preferred.
- Good assessment skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable medical assistant principles and practices to insure quality of care standards for residents are maintained.
- Must be self-motivated and function as an “in-charge” person.
- Must possess a high degree of interpersonal relations skills and capability of relating to a variety or people and personalities.
- Considerable initiative, judgment, and leadership skills are also required.
- Must be able to work with interruptions.
- Majority or work is performed inside the facility but occasionally outdoors.
- Requires ability to understand and follow policies and procedures of infection control, disaster preparedness, safety rules and regulations and facility rules.
- Participate in shift report to provide continuity of resident care.
- Work cooperatively with the residents, nurses, physicians and families.
