Schedule

Full Time; Monday–Friday; starting times: 8:00 am or 8:30 am. No nights, weekends, or observed holidays at this time.

Pay

Starting range: $20.00–$23.00 per hour.

About the role

The Medical Assistant supports the delivery of urological services, performs work as required, and functions as an effective member of the interdisciplinary team. This position collaborates with staff within their practice or other professional disciplines to achieve effective and efficient patient care delivery and desired patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various administrative and clinical duties under the direction of the assigned supervisor.
  • Confer with physicians, nursing, and other staff members to coordinate and schedule patient appointments.
  • Greet and prepare patients.
  • Measure and record vital signs.
  • Record patient interview, history, and chief complaint.
  • Provide patient education regarding medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and perform routine screening tests.
  • Assist physicians with exams.
  • Perform phlebotomy and collect other lab specimens.
  • Perform basic lab tests.
  • Perform EKGs.
  • Assist with X-ray and physician therapy procedures.
  • Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
  • Change dressings, apply bandages, remove sutures, and perform other first aid procedures.
  • Use CPR skills when necessary.
  • Prepare accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
  • Open and close the office.
  • Assist in maintaining patient logs for lab requests, CT scans, and other treatment orders.
  • Maintain prescription ledger when needed.
  • Ensure the back office has good flow, keeps rooms full, and assists with room turnover.
  • Perform new patient thorough work-up (X-rays, vitals, new patient packet explanation).
  • Add medical history for all new patients and update established patients’ history accurately.
  • Perform accurate and complete room set-up for physician.
  • Ensure all patients’ medication is updated before physician visit.
  • Handle set-up for in-office surgical procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate consent forms are completed correctly, avoiding excessive medical abbreviations.
  • Scribe as assigned per physician office flow.
  • Prepare for seeing patients the following day, including patient confirmation for next-day visits.
  • Complete patient medical record requests when necessary.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new personnel.
  • Ensure proper hand-off of responsibilities once tasks are completed.
  • Meet established attendance criteria and start work promptly; be punctual and dependable for assigned shifts.
  • Respect and acknowledge the organization’s commitment to cultural diversity through behavior, language, and actions.
  • Demonstrate good use of time and resources.
  • Adhere to HR and corporate policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all medical records are accurate and complete for all patients.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, medical laws, and high ethical standards.
  • Regularly adhere to and support compliance and accreditation efforts, including OSHA, HIPAA, and CMS guidelines for Parts C & D on General Compliance and Fraud, Waste & Abuse.
  • Perform other position-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience (based on State regulation requirements).
  • 6 months of experience working within a physician’s office desired; urology experience desired.
  • Minimal travel required.

Skills

  • Ability to perform well in stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems operations such as EMR and Practice Management Solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines.
  • Project management and vendor relations (for ordering office and clinical supplies).
  • Database management.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in computer programs and applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional patient service throughout all interactions.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Compliance with HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.

Certifications

Certification or Registration preferred.
