About the role

The Medical Assistant provides assistance to licensed medical providers in clinic and surgical settings, delivering safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, and individualized care to all patients.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a patient advocate during exams and treatments.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Escort patients to examination, procedure, or operative rooms and prepare them for the physician.
  • Record patients' medical history, medications, allergies, vital statistics, and test results in medical records.
  • Ensure proper consent forms are obtained prior to treatment.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician, following safety protocols.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, wound care instructions, and physicians' instructions to patients.
  • Assist physicians during examinations and treatments, including administering injections and removing sutures.
  • Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies under provider direction.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, ensuring rooms are neat and clean.
  • Inspect sterile items, organize supplies on sterile fields, and assist with surgical procedures while maintaining sterility.
  • Assess patient conditions during exams, procedures, or surgeries and notify physicians or RNs of any distress.
  • Clean rooms and medical equipment between patients and at the end of the day.
  • Dispose of infectious waste and biohazard materials correctly.
  • Schedule patient appointments and change wound dressings.
  • Greet patients arriving at the office or clinic.
  • Coordinate with medical facilities to schedule patient tests or admissions.
  • Maintain inventory of instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring rooms are stocked.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.
  • Document all procedures accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Respond to emergency situations following nursing standards, policies, and protocols.
  • Assist in medical emergencies for patients, employees, or visitors and ensure proper documentation.
  • Inventory and order medical emergency supplies monthly and ensure equipment is in working order.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures while supporting a culture of high quality and customer service.
  • Perform other duties as necessary or in the best interest of the organization.
