Lung and Allergy Health Associates (LAHA), a division of TPIRC, is our premier clinical network of pediatric pulmonologists, allergy/immunology physicians, and allied healthcare professionals. In exclusive partnership with Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital, LAHA utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to treat complex, underserved lung and allergy conditions. We are currently seeking an experienced Medical Assistant at Lung and Allergy Health Associates (LAHA) to serve as both the clinical and operational backbone of our specialty clinic.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Record vital signs, medical histories, and chief complaints.
  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, ensuring cleanliness and necessary supplies.
  • Educate patients on medications, treatments, and follow-up care.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in electronic health records (EHR) and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Audit patient charts and notes to ensure they are reviewed, properly closed, and comply with clinic and hospital regulations.
  • Check-in and check-out patients, ensuring a seamless patient experience.
  • Schedule patient appointments, including overseeing the Outpatient Specialty Clinic schedule and assisting the front office.
  • Sort and forward correspondence to Utilization management or the Medical records department at Memorial Care.
  • Schedule and coordinate meetings with pharmaceutical representatives to stay informed on new medications and facilitate educational opportunities for healthcare providers.
  • Order and manage inventory supplies through established vendors.
  • Manage and process medication and procedural prior authorizations, including the processing of Sublingual Immunotherapy and the ordering of biologics, to ensure access to care and enhance patient satisfaction.
  • Assist new physicians and providers with charting and onboarding, offering comprehensive training on all systems including the Electronic Medical Record System.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for in-clinic concerns and problem-solving (Medication refill needs, follow-up appointments, and patient inquiries for Lead Physician of clinic).
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required:
  • Medical Assistant diploma and/or certification.
  • 2+ years previous Medical Assistant experience in a clinic or healthcare setting.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Proficiency with office software applications and previous EMR experience.
  • Proficiency in medical/healthcare terminology and clinical procedures.
  • Team mentality and positive working attitude.
  • Strong verbal/written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Prior Experience

  • Previous procedure training/experience: PFT, ENO, Exercise Stress Test, etc.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to walk between multiple office locations that include the use of stairs (elevator is only available in some instances). This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
