Job Summary
Reporting to the Clinical Manager or Program Director and/or their designee, the Medical Assistant (MA) and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) are responsible for performing physician support services that help ensure that the medical centers run efficiently. The Total Health Care MA/CMA is an integral member of the healthcare team and is recognized as being one of the first clinical staff to engage with a patient during a provider visit. The tone set for the visit by the MA/CMA can contribute to the overall impression of the clinic and influence how the patient engages with the care team.
General Responsibilities
- Collecting demographic and payment information from Total Health Care’s (THC) patients at point of service
- Verifying and entering insurance information into THC’s Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems (dental, CESH, substance abuse, or medical)
- Patient registration
- Scheduling appointments
- Processing encounters
- Aiding in the reduction of unnecessary write-offs and negative adjustments for uncollectible charges
- Performing necessary clinical assessments such as vital signs and POC testing
- Giving injections
- Performing EKG’s
- Assisting with procedures
- Documenting clinical activities in accordance with governmental and institutional guidelines and protocols
Licenses and Certifications
- Completion of an approved Medical Assistant program
- Completion of a nationally recognized Medical Assistant Certification Exam for Certified Medical Assistants
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, carry, push or pull heavy objects in excess of 75lbs as well as squat, walk, climb, bend, crouch, stoop, kneel, stand, grasp, reach, pull and repetitive motions
Work Environment
Office setting.
