About the Role

The Medical Assistant’s primary responsibility is to assist in the delivery of health care management for the health center. This includes actively participating and supporting primary clinical teams while demonstrating professionalism and promoting the organization's values. The Medical Assistant will work under the supervision of the Medical Assistant Manager, Health Center Manager, and Providers.

Responsibilities

  • Become familiar with provider tendencies and established patient conditions
  • Distribute Patient Agenda and complete medication reconciliation every visit, including over-the-counter medications
  • Complete Family and Social histories
  • Move patients from the waiting room to treatment rooms
  • Perform vital signs, acquire recent test results, and ascertain the reason for the visit
  • Prepare patients and gather all necessary information before the practitioner sees them
  • Report any observed changes in patient condition or behavior
  • Prepare rooms for practitioners and perform simple procedures according to Wright Center medical policy/procedures
  • Administer inoculations, draw blood, perform EKGs, and fulfill other provider requests
  • Participate in quality assurance activities to monitor and improve patient care quality
  • Complete forms or growth charts as appropriate before the practitioner sees the patient
  • Assist with examination, diagnostic, and treatment procedures
  • Enter requisitions in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system
  • Prepare and send out specimens
  • Stock treatment rooms and clinical areas daily; alert the Health Center Manager of supply needs
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms, halls, and lab areas
  • Follow all standing orders as needed
  • Facilitate spirometry, audiometry, BP checks, allergy shots, UA/UC, urine drug screens, and other necessary procedures
  • Attend all staff meetings and provide backup support to coworkers as needed
  • Understand and adhere to professional office standards and policies
  • Participate in unit-based quality initiatives
  • Perform laboratory testing
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and legal regulations
  • Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to hazardous substances
  • Prepare and administer medications and injections per provider instructions
  • Ensure patients understand health center resources and available programs (e.g., sliding fee discount program, Good Faith Estimate, outreach & enrollment programs, language services, after-hours coverage)
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including the availability and location of SDS and 990 binders
  • Understand emergency roles and responsibilities to assist coworkers and patients
  • Make timely callbacks and inform patients of their test results
  • Work in close support of the health center medical director, physicians, nurses, care managers, and other providers
  • Adhere to HIPAA policies regarding privacy and security of patient health information
  • Register and activate patients on their individual portal accounts and assist with troubleshooting portal issues
  • Schedule patient appointments and follow-up visits
  • Answer and return phone calls
  • Manage patient intake and checkout processes
  • Ensure copays are collected at the time of visit
  • Create triages within the EMR system
  • Manage patient information in the Electronic Medical Records system
  • Participate in extended access hours, including late nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Provide cross-coverage at other locations and service lines for continued patient support
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Meet The Wright Center for Community Health and its affiliated entity’s EOS© People Analyzer Tool
  • Buy-in and experience working in the EOS® model (strongly preferred)
  • Mission-oriented with professional representation of the organization
  • High School Diploma or GED (minimum qualification)
  • Bilingual skills highly desired
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant in a physician office setting preferred
  • Graduate of a program for Medical Assistant, Administrative Medical Assistant, or Nurse Aide required
  • Basic Life Support/CPR certification required
  • Designation as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) preferred
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and maintain accuracy with detailed-oriented responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Proficient computer skills and proven proficiency in technology and EMR workflows
  • Reliability, punctuality, and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Professional, customer service-oriented demeanor to deliver quality care
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule
