About the role
The Medical Assistant supports the practice with overall responsibility for maintaining efficiency of patient flow. They perform clinical duties such as maintaining universal precautions, rooming patients, taking vital signs, performing phlebotomy, administering vaccines, and performing treatments and procedures as ordered by the provider. Administrative responsibilities include greeting patients, scheduling appointments, processing orders, and answering phones.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients and escorts them into exam rooms.
- Assists with procedures as directed and supervised by MD, NP, or PA.
- Takes vital signs and documents them.
- Answers phones, processes orders, and prepares patient charts.
- Coordinates room rotations and assists with receiving results.
- Cleans instruments and maintains sterilizer competencies.
- Maintains excellent customer service and communicates critical patient information.
- Ensures appropriate communication with staff and patients regarding schedule changes.
- Cross-trains to assist in covering the front desk team.
- Performs administrative tasks such as patient check-in/out, answering questions, and uploading photographs into Meditech and i-heal.
- Trains new employees and assists in chart reviews.
- Participates in safety awareness and follows universal precautions.
- Works weekends and holidays as required.
Requirements
- Minimum Education: High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Experience: Experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Licenses/Certifications: BLS - Basic Life Support required, CMA - Certified Medical Assistant certificate preferred.
- Knowledge and Abilities: Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; strong clinical judgment; good organizational and prioritization skills; ability to work as a team; extensive knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and English grammar; ability to react calmly in emergencies; ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed instructions; computer proficiency; ability to lead and follow directions.
